Back to Austin

So I'm heading back to Austin on Friday to see The Calm Blue Sea's CD release party on Sat night at Emo's. I'm stoked to finally get back to Austin, see some friends, listen to some awesome music and even see my family!

I'll make sure to post some pictures when I get back of the party and fun in Austin. In the meanwhile, I'm stoked for the baseball postseason to get started. The NL Wild Card has been really interesting, even with my Astros losing out...but they pushed hard towards the end. As of this posting it looks like Sabathia has put the Brew Crew in the wild card lead with the Mets three outs away from another late season collapse. I'll throw my picks out now, Cubs are your NL Champs and the Rays are your AL champs. Who would have thought that at the beginning of this season.

So with that, we now get to listen to two sportscasters I cannot stand, Joe Buck and Tim McCarver...honestly the worst two baseball announcers out there. So here comes a great month of baseball and two idiots that will mess it all up.

At least UT football is playing well :)

Sunday afternoons...

You know...you can't really go wrong with a Sunday afternoon at all. You get the wonders of hanging out and doing nothing but watching football, catching up on nap time and running the pointless errands the week does not let you run. So this post is going to focus on one of those things that I follow, that is football, specifically fantasy football.

There is something about the lure of fantasy football, maybe its the inner Billy Beane in me, but I just enjoy playing it and working with the rosters. But today, my team is severely under performing. I guess that's just the ebb and flow of the game, but when your entire team decides to kick the bucket and you're about to become the worst team in your league...that's just awesome.

So as this Sunday rolls along and my fantasy team decides to play like a bunch of girls I'm going to enjoy the rest of my Sunday with some catching on napping, since I already did my errands.

Oh...I've hyped this band on here a lot, but you really need to go check them out. I think I'll head to Austin for their CD release party on 10/4. Check them out at www.thecalmbluesea.com and enjoy their music. And if you don't...well at least enjoy this poster.

Music I'm jamming to

Back at it with a music post today...

So I've been getting back into some good music recently. I'm always listening to one of the greatest bands out there, Muse. They really just blow me away with their musicality and their intense performances. If you haven't checked out any of their stuff before here are some good videos. The first one is Supermassive Black Hole, really different and almost houseish. The second video is one of my favorite songs of theirs, Map Of The Problematique.

Another band I really want to hype out is The Calm Blue Sea. They are a post-rock band in Austin, similar to Explosions in the Sky. Again they have a show tonight in Austin at Emo's, go check them out. If you want to listen to some of their stuff here is a link to their Last.fm page where you can download their demo. Check it out, you'll really enjoy it. This is the kind of music you can just turn on and listen to. You don't have to think, you just feel the music.

I'll come back with some other music I'm listening to soon. For now check out The Calm Blue Sea and enjoy Muse.

Back at it

So it's been way too long since I last posted here.  There have been many changes in life since then.  I have a new job, which is awesome.  It's been 5 months there now, a really fast 5 months.  I'm in a new great apartment with my kick ass roommate Andy.  Things are good.

I wanted to use this return post for my friend Chris and his band The Calm Blue Sea. These guys are nothing but awesome and I'm mad they are playing in Austin and I can't see them.  If you've ever heard of Explosions in the Sky, they sound like them but they don't.  Take a listen to Calm Blue Sea they are on the links on the left under favorite band.  If you enjoy it, stick around they have just recently recorded a record so I'll keep you up-to-date with that.

But if you're in Austin, go check them out on Saturday May 3rd.  They are playing at Emo's with The Midgetmen and The Georgian Company.  There will be free beer and free CD's from The Midgetmen!  If you need more credibility, then The Austinist says go as well.

I leave with that as I'm going to the midnight showing of Iron Man tonight.  Looking forward to it as the previews have been nothing but awesome.  Also, people say I look like Robert Downy Jr. you know minus all of the coke.

Until later (which will be sooner)
